Is stress good or bad? What do you think?
I very often talk to clients about why they’re tired after a period of stress, and I liken it to be chased by a wild animal.
This is what our ancestors experienced and our bodies haven’t evolved in the same way that the world around us has.
It hasn’t learnt that your keyboard warrior rage is different to chasing a wild animal for dinner. Like an actual warrior.
The outcome after successful capture is to eat it, then rest. Moving our body from fight/flight to rest/digest.
Nowadays that’s a day of pounding the keys and the coffee. Then hitting Netflix and Nando's (or your preferred - I just had peri peri chicken, so it’s all I can think of!)
Does any of that sound familiar?
Well, this week for me I got hit by that absolutely crushing tired feeling post stress.
For three weeks we’ve been hitting it hard trying to get the house to some kind of liveable situation. Like, get a hob, a sink, toilet, running water.
Don’t get me wrong, I actually loved wild wee’s and am kinda gutted we have a toilet now (for all of one day).
But knowing we needed a bed and to cook food not on the floor, meant that I literally bounced out of bed at 7am to get started.
And I’d keep going until 9pm.
On Monday we got a bed from the neighbour, and I cannot get out of bed in the morning. And I feel absolutely wiped through the day.

The reason?
I’ve had three weeks of acute stress, pushing my adrenaline, helping me prioritise what needs to be done, blocking the sensors of tiredness.
And now my body has seen we have safety and a chance to recharge and it’s fighting hard against my motivation/desire to do more.
So what am I doing?
I’m letting it win! It’s bloody December!
I’m sleeping til 8/8.30, I’m eating when I need to, I’m choosing tasks that sound fun, or going on some adventures.
I’m working with where my body is at.
Instead of pushing it deep into a hole and allowing it to get to a point of burn out or chronic stress!
If that sounds familiar, and like the way you’ve been feeling. Shoot me an email amy@empowerfitnessnutrition.co.uk and let's brainstorm a plan to help you deal with your acute stress before it gets chronic!
